He Took the Pictures. That's Why He's Not in Them.
Go back through the family albums and you notice it eventually. Birthdays, holidays, first days of school, the beach trip in the bad weather. He is in almost none of them, because he was the one behind the camera. The record of your family exists because of him and it barely includes him.
So when you go looking for a photo of him now, there are three or four. A work badge. Something formal from a wedding where he is not the one getting married.
